How do we gain access to locations? (When could the location be used, and who do filmmakers need to contact to gain access?)

– We need to build connections with the owners of each location that is not public domain, and assure that they would be ok with their location being listed. Under each listing, logistics will be given such as availability, contact info, etc.

How do we deal with potentially illegal locations?

– Although the vast majority of locations we post will be completely legal, some illegal locations are so good it is really tempting to post them. However, we should consult with police and local governments to see what liabilities there are. Jeremy Martin, the Bangor code enforcer may be a resource to help us with this.

Disclaimer: our project should not require any research outside of field work, so we right now we don’t have any internet or print resources to look in to.

Title: FilME
Idea/Main Goal: Develop a network of set seekers and owners
Description:
This solution would require some definite planning. The idea would be to develop a web page (or other many-to-many vehicle) that could allow directors of all talents access to normally private areas. Local companies and businesses would offer there ‘set’ for a proper incentive (hopefully just a large area of the credits, or use of there products in the film). Ideally, there would be a rather large selection of parking lots, business locations, farms and structures for students to use (both on and off campus). Owners of the space could post available time slots for film-making and then directors could select a time and be given the owners contact information. Obviously there are some possible dangers to this, so precautions would have to be made to ensure the safety of everyone involved as well as the preservation of the property being used.

Research Questions:
What kinds of film sets do people have?
What kinds of film sets are people looking for? How do we gain access to locations?
Tools:
Video camera
Audio software
HTML/CSS editors
JDK’s (Java development kits) JavaScript
Personal Skills:
Major Milestones:
– Research/Find broad range of film locations
– Visually design the site
– Flesh out design via code
– Ability for people to post locations
– Create intro video using the locations?
– Make site live

http://www.nrcm.org/issue_cleanwaters.asp – Cleaner rivers lead to healthier water, better fishing, and over all cleaner towns. Having a clean river to me is a big deal because where I live (cherryfield), use to have a very dirty river where the blueberry plants would dump blueberry waste into the river and all the wildlife died. That since has changed, but some towns still use their rivers as a dumping site.
Just a small group of locals turned that around and the salmon and fish population is slowly growing back to its origins.

http://www.nrcm.org/issue_penobscot.asp – This kind of stems off my first topic, but more in depth. The penobscot river is one of Maine’s most important rivers and feeds to a lot of other rivers in Maine. Dirty water in the penobscot river could lead to a decline in:
Fish
Lobster
Birds
And possibly even more. Fishing lobster is a big part of Maine culture and if lobster were to move from the ocean of maine, that would put a lot of hard working families out of jobs.

This one is about old storage bins that get turned into houses for the less wealthy and homeless.
Not only would this help the homeless but create jobs for lots of people.

This one was my original idea for a project, but the umaine motivators decided to do something close to this.
It’s random notes posted around cities that are motivational.

Newspapers are losing subscribers and ads

How can you help the Bangor Daily News attract more eyeballs?

Example: Pattie Barry and Adrianne Hess, MeCampus.

Create online ads – advertising that reading the Bangor daily news ( print version) will allow you to receive special discounts off all your local businesses. Contact local businesses and give them free advertisement as a discount voucher inside the news paper. This would not online get traffic online, but spread to everyone outside internet.

1. Problem: A disappearing language

The New Media solution would be option B. Option B distributes information to many people instead of keeping them to themselves. This is the better solution in the long run so that the children can share all the stories and create an online dictionary instead of a one-to-one solution. This is also my preferred choice.
2. Problem: Neglected ruins

Solution B would be the New Media solution. Leaving a bread trail letting other adventurers where people have already been and maybe some information about the place creates a database. You can then go behind that person and maybe add anything they may have missed. This is Many-To-Many.
3. Problem: Misunderstanding computer animation

While neither of the solutions are really Many-To-Many, I feel as though solution A would be more New Media solution. For example, you are in the museum, you can pick what you want to look at and what you want to see, while observing the real thing at the same time. Solution B does not allow you to do this.
4. Problem: A broken fountain

The New Media solution to this problem would be Solution A. It would be solution A because it involves bringing together many people to create a solution to a growing problem. Networking a bunch of different clubs and facilities to come together.
